We had a relatively successful bear season this past spring 2006. We got into some new untapped areas and saw several huge bears. We only ran 4 hunters in total and the first 2 hunters Dan Stelzner and Shawn Engel saw around 20 bears apiece and several wolves on their 9 day hunt. This was less bears than the hunters usually see probably because we were running so many new baits. It should become better each year as the baits become more established. Shawn and Dan saw the big bears on the first couple of evenings and this kept them holding out but the smart old boars would just not stand around long enough for a good bow shot, or would not come in with enough daylight. They would just cruise through looking for sows in heat. They ended up not shooting any bears but Dan did take a couple of long, tough shots at a wolf but didn't get it. I felt bad because they didn't get anything but I guess that's how trophy hunting sometimes goes. They must have liked the hunt enough because they both rebooked for 2008. We will definitely make sure they get their bears then.

The next 2 hunters Eric Armstrong and Troy Murray could only hunt for 5 evenings so they weren't being quite so picky on size. They both saw several bears and took 3 nice ones. Troy also had a couple of wolves come into 50 yards on the bait but they didn't stick around long enough to get shot at. They both said they enjoyed the hunt and would definitely come back sometime.

My wife Jen and I also stayed for a few extra days fixing up the house where we will be running all of our Northern Alberta fall hunts from. We are really excited for the upcoming season. We will still be doing our very successful mule deer and antelope hunts with our longtime guides in Southern Alberta too. Almost all of the hunts south and north are booked up for this fall.
