BOWHUNTS
This
past fall was truly our best year ever for putting
big buckson the ground. The bowhunts had anincredible
85% kill success and the rifle hunts had
100% success with some huge bucks shot in both
seasons. I started out the year in August with some
pre-season scouting which revealed many good bucks
and a few giants, including two deer that would
have easily scored over 200 non-typical. After seeing
that I was eager to get the hunts started.

We
started out the season in September with the bowhunts
where we took 13 guys who killed 11 muleys and 7
combo hunters who killed 5 antelope. The 2 best
archery deer were a 182 and a 180.
The 182 was taken by Larry Haley from Texas
on his 3rd hunt with us. It was a narrow but super
long tined deer. Larry also took a 68 score antelope.
Larry's son Robert accompanied him on the
hunt and he also got a nice mule deer and a Pope
& Young antelope. The other big 180 buck was
28 inches
wide outside and it was shot at 15 yards by Zig
Kertenis on his unbelievable 11th hunt
with us. The next biggest mule deer was shot by
Dale Houston from Tennessee. A single 32
yard shot anchored the 170 inch deer for
good.
|
The next best bucks were a 165 taken by Steve
Mosley and a 160 by Phil Cargnino. He
shot his buck in the first hour of the first day
of his hunt. Eric Zinczenko came all the
way from New York and also took a 160 muley and
a 70 inch antelope. Some other good deer were shot
by Lyle Clem, Aaron Burquest, Fred Busdiecker,
and Denis Dvorak. |
RIFLE HUNTS
The
November rifle hunts were every bit as good as the
bowhunts. The rut was strong throughout almost the
whole month. Unusual cold and deep snow made getting
around tough but concentrated the deer and made
finding big ones easier than ever. Jerry Dollard
from California started out the season with a bang
anchoring a 204 4/8 non-typical. It was a
main frame 188 typical, 17 4/8" of non-typical,
30 ¼ inches wide outside with 5 ½"
circumferences. We had never seen this buck before
so it probably came out of the nearby provincial
park.
|
The
next biggest beast of a deer was killed by Dave
Crinklaw. It scored 187 and had circumferences
of just under 6 inches, heavy bladed tinesand several
non-typical points. An incredible deer! Dave's buddy
Zach Craig also shot a big 186 incher
on the same hunt. They were 2 very happy hunterswhen
they headed back to California. Lewis Wilks
from Colorado was also very pleased when he shot
a massive, multi tined buck that grossed at about
185. This buck was also new to us.
|
Seventy five year old Guido Rahr from Minnesota
took a wide 178 deer with one perfect heart
shot at 200 yards. Five other big deer were shot
by Carl Menard, Chris Nielsin, Mark Ross, Rex
Indra (on his 3rd hunt in 3 years) and Salvatore
Cucorullo.
