MIKE'S
OUTFITTING
2000 MULE DEER AND ANTELOPE HUNT REPORT
Year
2000 saw us have another great season bowhunting for
mule deer and antelope. Two mild winters in a row
has really helped to increase the populations for both
species. There was plenty of good muley bucks around
and some real giants seen and shot at. The antelope
numbers were really back and the buck quality was
also quite good. Everybody had at least one good shot
at a nice deer or antelope with several hunters getting
many opportunities.
We took 17 hunters who killed 10 mule deer bucks for a
60% success rate with most of these bucks making Pope
and Young. Return clients holding out for really good
deer kept the success rate down. The biggest buck was
a heavy 185 score deer taken by Jan Seski
from Pennslyvania and guided
by Blaine Walburger. Byron Christie from Texas
killed the next biggest deer with a 55 yard shot. It scored
a very symmetrical 165 Joe Coleman from
Tennessee and Craig Chandler from Kentucky came
together on a one on one hunt and took 2-160 class
bucks with under 25 yard shots.
Mike Van Dorfy from Texas shot a last day 155
buck and Ron Okonek from Wisconsin and Jerry
Allen from Texas also got nice 150 class bucks.
The bucks shot by the other hunters were all nice deer
they can be proud of.
It
was also great to see the antelope coming back. We had
some really exciting decoy action with some bucks charging
in to under 15 yards. The best antelope, a 76 incher,
was killed by Aaron Arnell from New Jersey with Rich
Mowry also from New Jersey as the decoy operator. Mike
Worrell from Pennslyvania. and Ron Okonek from Wisconsin
both got nice antelope and mule deer bucks. In the end
we took 6 antelope bucks for 8 hunters.

Thanks to everybody who came antelope and mule deer
bowhunting and made it a fun and successful hunt. Special
thanks to Blaine and Susan Walburger and Jan Allen who
all work their butts off to give everybody a great hunt.
The
year 2001 season is booked full and 2002 is booking
up quickly so call right away if you are interested.
I hope to see you up here soon.
Yours truly,
Mike Ukrainetz
