Alberta Elk Hunting
There is a large population of elk in the Peace River region
of Alberta, Canada. Here you get the rare opportunity to hunt
them in the rut with a rifle or bow. The hunts are done mainly
in the big woods areas on the farmland fringe using calling
and spot and stalk tactics. You will have an excellent chance
to get a mature, heavy 5 or 6 point bull scoring 250 to just
over 300. Bowhunts over waterholes and licks can also be very
successful.
The elk bowhunts are usually done
as a 8 day combo hunt with Canadian moose, September 8 to 15
during the bowhunting only season. The rifle hunt dates are
September 17 to the 30th as a 7 day elk only hunt. These dates
cover the whole Alberta elk rut period with peak rut about September
17th. Quite a bit of walking is required on both the rifle and
bowhunts but it is not physically demanding. The Peace River,
Canada area has huge amounts of public and private elk hunting
land and we know how to get you good shots on either the rifle
hunts or the bowhunts.
