Mikes Outfitting
Mike's Outfitting Ltd. is going to have some exciting new trophy hunts beginning in 2006.

These hunts will be for mule deer, whitetail deer, moose, elk, black bears and wolves. This new area is in Northwestern Alberta where we've been successfully running black bear hunts for the past 12 years. We've also been hunting it personally with family and friends for the last 3 fall seasons with bow and arrow and it has been fantastic. The variety of species and trophy quality of the animals is really amazing. I've always wanted to do some fall big game hunts in this area. We've just never been able to get any of the nonresident outfitter tags. Now we've got them, and you can be one of our first hunters in this area! Part of what makes the zone so good is that the habitat is a perfect mix of very productive farmland, thick wooded areas and deep river valleys.

Here are the new rifle and bowhunts hunts you can get in on beginning in 2006:

Mule Deer Hunts
The mule deer in this area are incredible! It is a limited draw zone for resident hunters and we have 8 out of the 10 non resident rifle tags and the only 4 archery ones. You have a very good chance to kill a 180 to over 200 inch deer, with a rifle or a bow, and we can offer hunts from 6 to 9 days in length giving you plenty of time to search for that deer of a lifetime. The archery season is when the deer are in an easy to pattern summer feeding mode with their antlers in full velvet. (The antlers can be easily stripped and stained if you prefer the hard horned look.) You may also be able to add a moose or a whitetail deer tag to your archery mule deer hunt. The moose tag would be an additional $1000 and the whitetail would $500. There are 4 whitetail deer tags and only one moose tag available to the 4 bowhunters. In the rifle season you have your choice of hunting the deer in their bachelor groups in September or in the rut in November. Either time is very good.

Whitetail Deer Hunts
Alberta is well known for it's huge whitetails and this area is one of the best. The bucks here are known for their massive high scoring racks. You have a fantastic chance to take an over 150 gross score buck with a very real chance to get a huge 170 plus deer. You get to hunt these big bucks throughout the peak of the rut. There are large sections of bush that back right up to the farm fields. This is where the giant whitetails can hide out and grow to maturity. You will be hunting out of stands set on the edges of the fields where the does congregate or up to several miles back in the woods. All the stand locations will have been heavily scouted before your arrival. The hunts can be done for up to 9 days and can be combined with a moose or mule deer hunt.

Moose Hunts
The number of moose in this zone is unbelievable and all the good habitat areas are relatively easy to access. This makes the hunt not very physically demanding. The trophy quality has also been getting better and better since it was recently put on a limited draw for resident hunters. These moose are categorized by the record keeping organizations as Canadian moose and most of the big bulls are in the 40 to 50 inch range. Some 50 plus inch bulls have also been seen and taken in the last 2 years. Bowhunters will get the first chance each season at the best bulls hunting them in the pre-rut in August and September. The hunting methods will be a mix of calling, spot and stalk and tree stand hunting over waterholes and natural salt licks. The rifle hunts will be conducted in what is referred to as the late season hunt. It is in November after the moose rut. At this time of year the bulls group up and feed together in the farm fields. This makes for a physically easy hunt where you will be driving around looking over as many bulls as possible. You may see up to 30 or 40 moose per day in your search for the biggest bull possible. You can also do some walking and four-wheeler driving to get in to some of the non-truck accessible areas.

Elk Hunts
There is quite a large population of elk in the area and the best part is that you get the rare opportunity to hunt them in the exciting calling season with a rifle or bow. The elk spend most of their time in the thick bush areas where there are small grassy clearings and cutlines for them to feed on. This is where you would spend most of your time trying to ambush the elk or call them in to you. Some of the hunting is also done on the adjacent farm fields. With a bow or a rifle you will have an excellent chance to kill a 5 or 6 point bull scoring 250 to just over 300. Bowhunting the elk in the early season over waterholes and natural salt licks is also a good way to ambush a nice bull.

Wolf Hunts
There is a large, healthy population of wolves in this zone because the big game numbers are so high. You can add a wolf license to any of your hunts for just $25 and you may get a chance at one of these elusive animals. We may also be offering baited winter wolf hunts in the future.
Mikes's Outfitting specializes in archery mule deer hunts, antelope & mule deer combo hunts, rifle mule deer hunts, archery black bear hunts and is now offering new trophy hunts for whitetail deer, mule deer, moose, elk and wolves in Alberta Canada
